Preparing for a family portrait session is about capturing the essence and smiles of your family in a unique and beautiful way. At Lifesong Photography, we believe these moments are crucial, and we are here to ensure your portraits are as meaningful as they are stunning. Here are some essential styling tips to help you prepare for your session.

Outfit Choices

The right outfits are key to the success of your portraits, reflecting individual styles while maintaining a cohesive look.

Comfort is Key: Choose outfits that you and your children are comfortable in, as discomfort can affect your posture and expressions.

Layer and Accessorize: Adding layers like scarves, hats, or vests can introduce texture and depth. Accessories should be complementary, not overwhelming.

Avoid Clashing Patterns: Patterns can add interest, but conflicting ones can distract from the subjects. If one person opts for a pattern, others might select more subdued styles.

Color Coordination

Choosing the right color palette is vital for making your family portraits look cohesive and visually appealing. Opt for colors that complement your family's skin tones and the session's backdrop.

Soft and Neutral: Pastel shades like light blues, pinks, and yellows are great for natural settings and give your photos a gentle, timeless feel.

Bold and Vibrant: Embrace vibrant colors like deep reds or royal blues for a dramatic pop, especially effective in urban or rustic backgrounds.

Classic and Subtle: Earth tones such as browns, greens, and grays can create a harmonious and natural look.

Incorporating Personal Touches

Adding personal elements to your family portraits can significantly enhance their uniqueness and authenticity.

Meaningful Items: Including items like a family heirloom, a favorite toy, or a musical instrument can add a special touch.

Themes That Tell a Story: Incorporate elements from hobbies or passions, such as biking, which can make the session more personal and engaging.

Location Matters: Selecting a location that resonates with your family’s spirit, like a favorite park or beach, can make everyone feel more relaxed and connected.

Conclusion

The goal of your family portrait session with Lifesong Photography is to capture your family's spirit in a true and joyful manner. These styling tips are designed to prepare you effectively, but the most crucial aspect is that you feel comfortable and happy. We are excited to help you create beautiful, lasting memories that reflect the unique charm of your family.

In the heart of Northwest Georgia, nestled at 1443 Spring Place Rd, Rydal, lies a sanctuary where the beauty of womanhood is celebrated in its most authentic form. Lifesong Photography, a haven for families and women over 50, thrives on capturing the essence of its subjects, weaving stories of life, love, and laughter through the lens. This year, we embark on an extraordinary journey, one that celebrates not just beauty, but the wisdom, strength, and grace that comes with age. Our 50 Over 50 luxury portrait experience is more than a photo shoot; it's a declaration of the timeless elegance of women who have lived half a century, each with stories that deserve to be told and celebrated.

A Step Towards Inclusivity and Diversity

A key aspect of our mission at Lifesong Photography is to champion inclusivity and diversity through our work. The 50 Over 50 project is a step towards this goal, showcasing the diverse faces, stories, and backgrounds of women over 50. We believe that every woman has a story worth telling, and through our lenses, we aim to bring these stories to light in the most authentic and respectful way.

Our commitment to diversity isn't just about age. It encompasses a broad spectrum of life experiences, cultural backgrounds, and personal identities. By highlighting the richness of these varied experiences, we hope to foster a more inclusive understanding of beauty and strength that transcends traditional boundaries.

Stories That Inspire

One of the most profound aspects of the 50 Over 50 experience is the stories that come to life during each session. These women, from diverse backgrounds and walks of life, share a common thread—their views on beauty, aging, and the liberating feeling of being celebrated for who they are.

Take, for example, Maria, a 52-year-old educator who dedicated her life to inspiring young minds. For Maria, the photo shoot was a revelation, a moment where she could step away from her daily roles and just be herself, basked in a light that highlighted her inner and outer beauty. "It was empowering," Maria shares, "to see myself through such a loving and accepting lens. It reminded me that beauty doesn't fade with age; it evolves."

Then there's Eleanor, a 67-year-old retiree who embarked on a journey of self-discovery after her children left the nest. Eleanor's session was a celebration of her newfound freedom and the adventures that lay ahead. "I've never felt more alive," she exclaimed, her portrait capturing the spark of excitement and anticipation for the future.

Looking Forward

As Lifesong Photography continues to tell these incredible stories, we're also expanding our vision. This year, we plan to introduce a children's fine art portrait series, extending our celebration of life's milestones to the younger generation. Just as we've empowered and uplifted women over 50, we aim to capture the wonder, innocence, and endless possibilities reflected in the eyes of children.

Our studio is more than a photography business; it's a community where every story matters, where every age is celebrated, and where the beauty of life is captured in its most genuine form. Whether you're stepping into the golden years of your life or you're looking to capture the fleeting moments of childhood, Lifesong Photography is here to celebrate with you.

Join us on this empowering journey, and let's celebrate beauty at every age together.

It's the holidays and that means family gatherings! And it is the perfect time to get some great family photos. No matter what kind of camera you have, you can create some great images if you family is willing.

Usually when a family member asks for a "family photo" what they want is the whole family all looking at the camera and smiling. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this type of photo. I highly recommend that you get one of these! You will treasure it for years to come.

Sometimes getting the whole family together at one time is no easy task, so take advantage of every one being together and get that great picture(or call me to get one for you).

But don't stop at just one great pictures. There are some easy things you can do to add interest to your family holiday photos. You can everyone dress in matching pjs, or add in some props (most of which you probably have already around the house). A few ideas (and these work best with children) are:

lights/trees/ornaments

cookies/candy canes

books/toys

hats

presents

One of the best things you can do is to show interaction between family members (even if it is staged). Here are some ideas, but the list is endless. Think about things that your family loves and incorporate them in to your pictures.

baking cookies

decorating the tree

reading a story

handing a present

toasting with a glass of wine

building a snowman

making snow angels

playing board games

If you want something really outside of the box you can try the "bad 1980s JC Pennys" portrait look or you can create something fun in photoshop with digital backgrounds and compositing. Don't have photoshop skills but have a great idea? Well, you can call me because that one of my favorite things to do.

And then there is this.....

Have fun!

And enjoy your holidays!

Sharon
